GST calculator
Add GST to a base price or pull it out of a GST-inclusive total, with the CGST and SGST split shown for you.
How GST is worked out
In add mode the amount is treated as the base price and GST is added on top. In remove mode the amount already includes GST, so the base is found by dividing it out. For sales within a state the GST is shared equally as CGST and SGST.
FAQs about GST
How do I add GST to a price?
Multiply the base amount by the GST rate and add it on. For ₹1,000 at 18%, the GST is ₹180, so the total is ₹1,180.
How do I remove GST from a total?
Divide the GST-inclusive amount by 1 plus the rate. For ₹1,180 at 18%, the base is 1,180 ÷ 1.18 = ₹1,000 and the GST is ₹180.
What are CGST and SGST?
For sales within a state, GST is split equally into CGST (central) and SGST (state). An 18% rate becomes 9% CGST and 9% SGST. For inter-state sales it is a single IGST instead.
What are the common GST slabs in India?
The main rates are 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%, with special rates of 0.25% and 3% for items like rough diamonds and gold. Pick the slab that matches your goods or service.
Is GST added before or after a discount?
GST is charged on the price after any discount. Apply the discount first, then add GST on the reduced amount.
